Mamie Taylor-ish with Orchard House
A Fruity and Spicy Shandy Twist
Taking inspiration from the original Mamie Taylor, this recipe brings together the beautiful orchard fruit notes of Compass Box Orchard House whisky, complemented by the spice of homemade ginger syrup and a hint of fresh chili. This cocktail, developed by Mr Lyan Studio in collaboration with the Compass Box team, skews into shandy territory with the refreshing addition of lime and pale ale.
Ingredients:
- 50ml Compass Box Orchard House Whisky
- 20ml Ginger Syrup (see recipe below)
- 20ml Lime Juice
- 50ml Pale Ale
- 2 Ginger Slices (optional)
- 1 Slice of Chili (optional)
How to:
- Combine all ingredients, except pale ale, in a cocktail tin.
- Shake with ice, and fine strain into a highball glass over fresh ice.
- Top with pale ale, stir gently to combine.
- Garnish with fresh ginger & chili slices or dried candied ginger slices from syrup making.

Ginger Syrup recipe
Ingredients:
- 150g Sugar
- 150g Water
- 60g Fresh Ginger (peeled and finely sliced)
Preparation steps:
- Combine the ingredients in a pan.
- Bring the pot to a gentle simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar.
- Let it simmer on the lowest heat for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat and let the mixture cool completely.
- Strain through a fine strainer or sieve. For a stronger ginger flavor, allow the syrup to infuse longer before straining.
- Optional: Place ginger slices on a wire rack or gently bake them to create candied ginger slices for garnish, baking, or snacking.
- Store the ginger syrup in a sealed bottle in the fridge for up to one week.
