The success of Compass Box tasting event in Bangkok sets a milestone for whisky fans
On May 10, 2025, a very limited group of whisky lovers gathered for a remarkable event in Bangkok, hosted by Speak Easy BKK and Compass Box. Set high above the city in the Loft at Waldorf Astoria Bangkok, the private session marked the first time three rare Compass Box releases—Hedonism 2025, Secrets of Smoke, and Flaming Heart 25th Anniversary Edition—were officially poured in Thailand.
It was a whisky lover’s dream: an intimate setting, an expert guide, and unforgettable blends.
Sam Travers, distiller and blender at Compass Box, led the tasting. With over a decade of experience across London, Scotland, and Europe, Sam brought insight and warmth to the gathering. The event welcomed special guests from Thailand’s top retailers and whisky communities, such as Tops Retail, Winenow, The Bottles, Happy Drinks, Siam Whisky Club, and The Tasting Room & Co. Sam’s storytelling and detailed explanation of each whisky blend created a space for conversation, discovery, and deeper appreciation.
Each of the three limited-edition whiskies launched during the event had a distinct personality:
- Hedonism 2025 delivered a soft and luxurious profile of vanilla, coconut cream, and subtle spice. This elegant grain whisky left a lasting impression of richness and balance.
- Secrets of Smoke brought a quiet intensity, with notes of bonfire smoke, roasted nuts, and mineral tones. The dry finish and herbaceous character offered a fresh perspective on peated whisky.
- Flaming Heart 25th Anniversary Edition made a bold statement. Complex and full of power, it offered layers of dried chili, charred oak, and dark chocolate—leaving a memorable final mark on the tasting flight.
The tasting didn’t stop at new releases. Guests also enjoyed Compass Box core favorites: Orchard House, Crimson Cask, and Nectarosity. Each expression reflected the artistry and transparency Compass Box is known for.
Sam used blend charts to explain the structure behind each whisky, creating an engaging and educational session. The small group setting encouraged interaction, with guests asking detailed questions about distilling, blending, and wood selection.
This tasting event in Bangkok introduced three significant new releases to the Thai market and opened a new chapter for Compass Box in Southeast Asia. It also emphasized the creative vision of a brand that continues to challenge and redefine modern Scotch whisky.
